If you're a gamer, your keyboard is probably littered with tags. Whether it's the numpad or the number row, there's a good chance you can see some combination of letters and numbers. You might also have a rainbow set of modifier keys off to the side that'll let you access any button at any time without needing to hit escape and find that one-key shortcut in-game. If this sounds pretty familiar, you might be familiar with iw 00 iwd cod4 — an extension designed for people who use keyboard shortcuts often to toggle between different types of weapons in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. According to Alen "AlterEgo" Lott, the extension's creator, the idea came from a "n00b" comment he made on an Internet forum. "I'd been using a 'combo' of hotkeys to cycle between grenades and bullets for a while but I felt that since I was using a combination of keys from the numpad and number row I should make it more fun," he told The Escapist. In order to make this extension possible, Lott had to essentially take what was already available in-game and augment it with his own functionality. While this was possible with the numpad, he says it would've been more difficult to do with the number row. "It would have required figuring out which keys were responsible for each weapon in each game mode, which probably isn't possible without actually decompiling the games themselves," he said. Unfortunately, not all games are created equal when it comes to keyboard shortcuts. That's why Lott says this extension can't work with all games or mods. In fact, he doesn't know if it would be possible to make a universal application that could support any game or mod that uses keyboard shortcuts at all. "I'd guess that a lot of popular mods would have to be made with a modified version of the games themselves, making the process more complex and difficult. This extension is really based on specific games and their key bindings," he said. That's why the current version only works with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. "But I can see what I did could be useful to someone else who wants to make an extension for other games, mods or applications," he said.
